The battery is one of the most important cost and performance factors in a solar street light system. Capacity should be evaluated in watt-hours, calculated as battery voltage multiplied by amp-hours. This makes different voltage platforms easier to compare.
Required capacity depends on the real LED operating power, hours per night, dimming schedule, controller efficiency and desired cloudy-day autonomy. Motion sensing and timed dimming can reduce energy use, but the calculation should still include conversion losses and a safety margin.
When requesting a quote, ask for battery chemistry, cell grade, rated voltage, amp-hour capacity, expected cycle life and warranty. LiFePO4 solar street light batteries are widely used because of their thermal stability and long cycle life, but correct system sizing remains essential.
